Estimate for tax year 2025

An estimate, not a tax calculation for filing, and not advice. Your accountant can tell you what applies to you.

What this estimate assumes

  • Your household income is treated as wage income, and as your adjusted gross income.
  • Each state's standard deduction, exemptions and phase-outs, as published for 2025.
  • No other credits or deductions.
  • Local income taxes are not included. They apply in parts of Alabama, Colorado, Delaware, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, New York, Ohio, Oregon, and Pennsylvania.

About these two states

Where the estimate is known to run high or low, the state's note says so.

Florida
Florida has no state income tax on wages. It also has no tax on pensions, Social Security or investment income, so the estimate is $0.
Connecticut
Includes Connecticut's full rate schedule, including the way higher incomes lose the benefit of the lower rates, and its personal credit. Other credits, such as the property tax credit, are not counted, so it may run slightly high.

How this is estimated

Every figure uses the rates, deductions and exemptions each state published for tax year 2025. The same steps run for every state.

Your income goes in as wages

The household income you enter is treated as wage income and as your adjusted gross income. Investment income, pensions and Social Security can be taxed differently from state to state, and the estimate does not separate them.

Each state's own deductions come off

The state's 2025 standard deduction and personal exemptions for your filing status are subtracted, including the phase-outs that shrink them at higher incomes, where the state publishes one.

The state's rate schedule applies

What remains runs through the state's 2025 brackets or flat rate, including the way some states, such as New York and Connecticut, take back the benefit of their lower rates at higher incomes.

Some things are left out

No other credits or deductions are applied, and local income taxes are excluded. Those apply in parts of Alabama, Colorado, Delaware, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, New York, Ohio, Oregon, and Pennsylvania. Each state's note in the calculator says where the estimate is known to run high or low.
